This September, my Community Champion Award was presented to David Allmark, a Dementia Advisor for the Alzheimer’s Society Cymru. David’s work includes supporting those living with dementia through ongoing emotional and practical support across Delyn.

David is a compassionate and remarkable individual who epitomises what this award is all about, those who go above and beyond selflessly for others. I visited the Dementia Care Centre in Greenfield to present the Community Champion Award to David in September – meeting with BCUHB nurses, memory support staff and dementia advisors who work as part of the memory support pathway, it was clear to see what impact they have on people’s lives. From assessment, diagnosis and one to one support, including families and those with young onset dementia in those less than 65 years of age.

September was Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a time when people from all over the world unite to raise awareness and to challenge the stigma that persists around Alzheimer’s and all types of dementia. It seemed a fitting end to the month, taking a tour around the centre and highlighting the excellent work done here in Delyn.
