Hannah Blythyn has welcomed Welsh Government funding awarded to community groups across North East Wales as part of a £1 million St David’s Day Fund supporting celebrations of Welsh culture and heritage.

The fund supports community, regional and national organisations to celebrate historic Welsh traditions while also creating new opportunities for people to come together and celebrate modern Welsh identity. Successful events are taking place across Wales between mid-February and early March.

In Flintshire, Côr Merched Caerwys has received funding to deliver its Penwythnos Gŵyl Dewi / St David’s Weekend, a celebration dedicated to Welsh music, language and local culture, bringing residents together to mark the national day with pride.

Across neighbouring areas, projects such as Gwnewch y Pethau Bychain / Do the Little Things led by Outside Lives Ltd in Denbighshire and Alaw’s DGD x Tafarndai Cymunedol Cymru, taking place in community pubs across North Wales, are also helping people connect through creativity, community activity and Welsh traditions.

The St David’s Day Fund offered grants ranging from £500 for smaller grassroots initiatives to £40,000 for larger nationwide celebrations, ensuring communities of all sizes could take part.

Hannah Blythyn MS said:

“Around St David’s Day, it is always wonderful to see how communities across Delyn and the wider region celebrate the rich history and modern culture of what it means to be Welsh.

“From musical celebrations in Caerwys to creative community projects and events bringing people together across North Wales, this funding is helping local organisations showcase Welsh pride and strengthen community connections.

“The St David’s Day Fund is helping to invigorate these celebrations and ensures people of all ages have the chance to come together, celebrate our culture and create lasting memories.”

Alongside local events, celebrations supported by the fund are taking place right across Wales, highlighting the strength and diversity of Welsh culture in communities large and small.
