Many constituents have asked my position on the so-called proposed red route recently. From early days, I’ve worked to make sure the concerns of constituents and communities are heard – whether that be raising in writing, on the floor of the Senedd or calling for extra consultation events and activity.
I have and will always champion investment into this constituency and our corner of the country but the climate crisis is the biggest challenge that we face. That’s why I welcome the Welsh Government’s new transport strategy that places tackling the climate crisis front and centre and changes the way investment decisions are made, with the new Sustainable Transport Hierarchy central to this. The transport strategy allows the chance to review major road infrastructure projects.
I do not believe the ‘red route’ is the right solution for this time. I do not support it and I will make sure it’s reconsidered.
I will be making the case for a more sustainable approach to developing and investing in infrastructure in our corner of the country. From improvements that can be made to existing roads that also future proof them for inclusion in the North East Wales Metro to taking forward investment in public transport – more accessible and better bus services, and additional train stations such as the one I have been advocating for at Greenfield.
