As the easter break begins I want to thank all of the hardworking teachers and school staff across our corner of the country for all of their continued hard work over recent weeks. Coronavirus continues to impact us all in different ways but our schools have done their very best to provide support and opportunities for all of our children.

I have always enjoyed welcoming children from across the constituency to the Senedd so that they can learn more about our democracy and how decisions are made which impact the way in which they live their lives. Last week children from Ysgol Bryn Coch visited the Senedd – I believe – for one of the first visits to the building since before the pandemic began. It was great to join them for their tour, answering questions about my role as the MS for Delyn, as well as talking about how important it is that children and young people’s voices are heard.

With the Senedd being in recess we had the extra special chance to head into the Siambr itself so the children could look around and be in the room where decisions are made for the people of Wales. I know that many of our schools have been taking the opportunity to learn about the Senedd online, but I look forward to welcoming more schools to Cardiff Bay in the coming months.

During the Easter recess I’ll be taking the chance to get out and about in our communities, meeting with constituents to offer my support and visiting projects and businesses to hear more about the great work which they are doing. It really is great to see our towns and villages coming out of the pandemic even stronger, with neighbours and communities all coming together to make positive changes to the way we live our lives.

At the height of the pandemic I launched my Community Champions scheme to recognise all the ways individuals, streets, businesses and community groups adapted to support each other – from making hand sanitiser and face coverings, to organising street games and delivering shopping and prescriptions. Leader readers will know that I have always done my best to celebrate and promote all that we here in North East Wales have to offer.

All of this great work continues to happen every day in our towns and villages and I want to continue to celebrate it. So if you have a friend, work colleague or someone in your community who goes over and above to help others, please tell me about them so we can celebrate our Community Champions.
