Today the Welsh Government has announced further funding to support local authorities with additional financial pressures, including unexpected costs and loss of income.

The £264 million announcement means that over £490 million has been made available to local authorities to support them throughout the coronavirus pandemic. It will be administered through the Local Government Financial Assistance Fund to support services such as leisure, education and social care.

£25 million of the fund has been allocated to additional school cleansing until the end of March 2021, to ensure that our schools are a safe environment for staff and pupils. There is also £3.6 million for further education sites to ensure they are as clean and safe as possible.

Welcoming the funding, Hannah Blythyn MS said:

“Flintshire County Council and other Councils across Wales have gone over and above in recent months to maintain essential services and rising to the challenges we have faced.

I would like to say a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Flintshire County Council for their hard work to support people and businesses across Delyn.”
