Laney Matheson of Ysgol Maes y Felin in Holywell, has been announced as the winner of this year’s Christmas card, an annual competition run by Hannah Blythyn, the Member of the Senedd for Delyn.

Laney’s winning entry was chosen from many brilliant and beautiful designs submitted and will now be sent out electronically across the constituency, county and country. This year’s theme was “community”, reflecting on the way communities have come together to support one another during what has been an unusual and unprecedented year.

Laney’s design shows two penguins together under the slogan – “Teamwork makes the dream work” – a very fitting description of how communities have come together in these challenging times.

On Friday Ms Blythyn joined pupils at Ysgol Maes Y Felin through Teams to congratulate Laney on winning the competition and she was presented with a selection box and a framed copy of the card.

Praising Laney’s design, the Delyn MS said:

“Since being elected I have held a Christmas card competition each year and I didn’t want that tradition to come to an end, particularly when many people need some festive cheer.

I received a number of entries from schools and I am grateful to everyone who took the time to enter and show off their fantastic drawing skills – it wasn’t easy to pick a winner!”

The winning design will now be sent out to over 200 constituents, community groups and businesses, electronically, whilst Laney will have a set of cards to send out to their family and friends.
