Hannah Blythyn, Member of the Senedd for Delyn, recently visited Theatr Clwyd to meet with Executive Director Liam Evans-Ford and see the remarkable progress being made on the theatre’s ambitious transformation project.
The development has been made possible with over £22 million in Welsh Government funding, with support from Flintshire County Council and the Arts Council of Wales.
This project is securing the future of Theatr Clwyd while maintaining productions in temporary spaces and throughout the community.
Member of the Senedd for Delyn, Hannah Blythyn said:
“Having grown up with the theatre, I know how important it is to our area. Since being elected, I’ve worked to highlight its significance, both culturally and economically, and to secure its future as a centre for theatre and a space for our community for years to come.
The project is a significant investment in North East Wales and it’s great to see the transformation really taking shape – I look forward to its completion later on this year.”
The funding will allow the theatre and the people who go there to benefit from enhanced facilities and enjoy a better experience.
With improved equipment and spaces the theatre will attract new jobs to the area, cementing Theatr Clwyd not only as a key cultural asset, but an also as a venue of economic importance to North East Wales.
Theatr Clwyd executive director, Liam Evans-Ford, said:
“It was a pleasure to show our local MS around the redevelopment at Theatr Clwyd recently. Hannah has continued to be a major advocate for Theatr Clwyd’s work and impact, and the newly developed building will only increase our impact when it opens fully to the public later this year.
With spaces for training and development of theatre making skills, dedicated space for youth provision, arts and health referral spaces, areas for young families, improved access across the site, environmental standards higher than any retrofitted theatre in Europe, and a new restaurant, bar, café, and events spaces run in partnership with Bryn Williams, the impact on the local economy and communities will be significant.
Exciting times after many years of hard work and I cannot thank individuals like Hannah enough for their long-term support.”
Theatr Clwyd’s transformation is set to be completed later this year, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the iconic cultural hub in North East Wales.
